Kings: Episode Three: First Night
Aaat laasst, the slash has, come alonnng...
Shiloh is witness to the first public performance of the Royal Ballet. Various members of the family keep trying to get out of going/staying once they get there, which prompts a speech from Queen Rose about how it's not the ballet that matters but people seeing them at the ballet that does because they are the real performance. They are there to "unify a bunch of Stone Age tribes and give them hope and everything I've done, from this ballet to the color of the flag, is designed to remind people of that."
Later, at the after show gala, Queen Rose derides Michelle's health care program again and hints that Michelle should be nicer to this random boy she used to know when she was little. MIchelle doesn't want to, but eventually, getting frustrated with her annoying family that never listens to her, Michelle marches off to smooze the guy. Michelle bargains with him to get funding for her healthcare project, in return for "showing him something no one else has seen". She shows him Saulas's sock drawer. Michelle is rather inoccently starting to enjoy hanging out with this guy when the boy casually mentions that he (paraphrased)"didn't think this meeting would go as well as it it went when your mother suggested it". Apparently, her mother set the whole meeting up and later, she's sitting there trying desperately not to cry as her mother coldly lectures her on royal duty. Not just because her mother pimped her out without her permission but because her mother allowed her to think she could do something on her own when someone else had been pulling the strings all along.
Jonathan and David finally got more than three seconds in the same scene together. In fact, they get a whole subplot of mostly nothing but scenes together. Jack spirits David away for a night on the town, ostensibly to kill three birds with one stone by corrupting David, keeping him away from Michelle, and possibly collecting blackmail material for the future. Jack is an...extremeley organized partier, he's seriously covered himself in every way. They end up in this crazy Moulin Rouge style club type place, where they bump into Jack's boyfriend. Who um...thinks David is Jonathan's new special friend for a second. Jonathan is kinda mean to his lover, keeps pushing him away and eventually has him thrown out of the club because Jonathan is too busy uh- staring at David dancing with a chick. Still OOC for Bible!Jonathan but that's still some slash fodder.
While the show is probably not gonna Go There, this whole part of the episode is a lot like the start of a David slashfic. In fact, there IS a fic called "His Own Soul" which starts with this very premise of the guys ending up in bed together after what they'd thought was going to be a night of heterosexual debauchery.
Meanwhile, Rizpah's son is dying(I totally missed what they changed her name to in this version). She calls the king in tears, begging him to come help their child, so he sneaks out of the ballet to go to the countryside. When it looks like the boy might not make it, Saulas summons Reverend Samuels to demand answers from God. No answers are forthcoming, but on the way back Saulas runs straight into a deer, flipping his car. The deer dies, his son gets to live. I figured the son would live, since I suspect he's Ishbaal/Ishbosheth.
