Kings Episode 5: Judgement Day

So, apparently Gilboa has this thing called "Judgement Day", where the people petition to have court cases judged directly by the king. It's like a lottery- but not really because the cases that get picked in this episode are all, except one token peasant case, involving people the king knows personally.

Reverend Samuels is the pastor of "The Congregation of the Silent Prayer" and his first name is "Ephraim".

Rizpah's name is "Helen" in this version. I would've named her "Rita" or "Reesa" or "Rashida" something less generic but easily pronounced that starts with an R to make it easier. Or an English version of whatever "Rizpah" means.

Michelle is barren. Yeah, I DO think the writers have paid more attention to the Bible story and the theories surrounding it than it seems like they have at first.

Michelle and Jack are actually twins, which makes me think they're subtley trying to go somewhere with the M/D/J thing but they don't want to get caught doing it this early in the series when they're still in danger of cancellation.

There is a moment here that, just for a minute, shows us the David, Michal and Jonathan fans of the original story said they wanted to see- the *real* ones. David and Jack have actual chemistry in that scene (complete with looking passionately into each other's eyes) and when the three of them are walking down the stairs it was just like...Yes! That, right there! And that's why I think this show is getting better, and there's still a chance it'll become what we all want it and need it to be. If it never does, I will do a version with dolls, okay?

Saul eats lunch in prison with Abbadon to get advice on being a king-because the man he deposed and imprisoned is still the only person around who's been there before.

Michelle confesses to David that they can never be together because she's "promised to someone else".

There's a lot of complicated court machinations going on that I couldn't follow very well but I think basically the episode was about Saulas desperately trying to balance out many awkward situations at once, and how David, observing this closely, learns how to be a king. ANd uh, by doing this, Saulas is also ticking a whole lot of people off, and it's all going to come back on him in terrible ways-which is what we're watching slowly happening and that's why you need to stick with this story and let it unfold the way it needs to.

Macaulay Culkin joins the cast as William Cross's incredibly creepy son Andrew. We don't know what it is that Andrew did to get banished but the entire court seems ill at ease around him. Toward the end of the episode, Uncle William enters his house and calls for Andrew, getting no response. He finds a woman's high heeled shoe, and looks extremely disturbed. I don't think he's suspecting that Andrew's been cross dressing either...

Oh...I just realized, Queen Rose was looking for one of her shoes earlier in the episode.
