American Girl is anarcho hippie terrorista.

Heee. Although what's funny is that I sincerely doubt that was done on purpose. "Rebecca" and "Rubin" are both very widely used names, not to mention they are easy for little girls to pronounce and have a pretty alliterative sound. I think pointing out that it could be racist is far more racist than what appears to be a vaguely amusing coincidence. You're the one who went there, not AG, after all.

Comment to this entry and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. You must then update your journal and answer the following questions:

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favourite episodes/books/movies, etc?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

Narnia

1) Oh, that's a difficult one. I've always *enjoyed* the stories quite a bit, read them over again at different stages in my childhood, saw the old movies before the option for better versions existed. And I loved the Walden/Disney LWW, but it didn't exactly take over my life either, although "normal" people who can't fathom the depths of obsession fannish types can sink to probably thought I was obsessed all along just because I showed any inclination to return to the source material or think about it when I didn't have to (my sister, for example, can't remember many details from the books or older movies and looked askance at me when I admitted to having read them past fourth grade and to knowing things like what color Caspian's hair originally was). The head over heels *obsession* arrived after I saw the Walden/Disney "Prince Caspian".
2) The great thing about this fandom is that it's been with me my entire life, so I doubt it's going anywhere, although there will be a leveling off of interest every once in awhile.
3) My favorite books were Dawn Treader and The Silver Chair, and they're my favorites of the BBC movie versions too.
4) Yes. I've written three or four fics, and I belong to a couple of communities. And as you know, I'm currently portraying the entire VotD using Tonner dolls. I think I also have one of the largest collections of Narnia meta in journal based fandom.
5) Yes. The showing is particularly pathetic on Insanejournal, which, as I've mentioned before, is really weird considering most of the fics are underage slash, and I wonder why people think they're immune from the same persecution the HP fandom endured. The only thing I can guess is that this fandom commonly has long lulls of activity, and didn't pick up to the level it has been at until after Boldthrough had blown over (and a little bit of that "this fandom is older than Star Trek, LJ could never kill it anyway").

Harry Potter
1) I have no idea. Seriously. One day I wasn't, the next day I was running a Snape Slash archive.
2) I expect I'll move on when everyone else does, but I'm not sure they ever will. The fandom *has* slowed down and gets slower all the time but it's Harry Potter, so it's all relative. I don't participate much anymore, because I think I've said everything I could possibly say.
3)I think OotP was the best of the movies, and PoA is the best of the books.
4) I used to more than I do now. But I've written tons of fic and long winded meta. Most of which is still around somewhere, and I think if you asked people "who is BabyDraco?" They'd say "She writes in the Harry Potter fandom".
5) Um. NO. This fandom has more than enough people already.

SPN

1) This past year, I couldn't go out as much on Thursdays as I was used to, so I started watching the show because, um, it was on. Previous to that, I'd been warned away from it by, well, half of online feminist fandom. But the thing is, people kept telling me "don't watch that show, don't you agree that this show is terrible, well, DON"T YOU?" When I hadn't...really seen the show much at all. Now, maybe if I'd been watching in Season Three, I'd feel the same way everyone else did, but guess what, I *wasn't* watching then (negative things I said about the show were entirely based on other people's opinions which is NOT a healthy or smart way to go about cultivating a view of something, *baaaah*) so the show, when I finally joined it, was a show that was actually undergoing efforts to address previous complaints. Dean, for example, has *more* than paid for his offensive behavior in S3. And sometimes what the source material can give you outweights what you don't like about it.

2)I have no idea. I really don't. They'll probably lose me if they ever do something like "Malleus Maleficarum" again but they haven't yet. The most offensive episode of S4 was "Great Pumpkin" but most people would probably see my complaint as trivial.
3)"Monster Movie", "Mystery Spot", "In the Begining" and the whole Anna arc so far (shut up! I didn't know it's frowned upon to like the female characters who aren't Ellen, Missouri or Mary, and to ship any of the boys with a girl). I haven't seen much of S2 yet, so this list may change.
4) I haven't written any fic for SPN, although I've written one gigantic piece of meta on S4 (available on The Cosmicdance). And there's "Kiss Me Deadly" but I don't know whether that qualifies as fic or fan art.
5) It seems to have a respectable following already (yet another reason for giving in and getting into it- I want to be in fandoms other people are into, where I can be free to be a passive observer without the whole thing dying).

SPN has it's brilliant moments but others that just make me facepalm.

Before the films, the fandom was still small enough to be on Yuletide. SO maybe that's part of it?

It's not so much that the show makes me mad, I realized, but that I just can't figure it out. So I keep trying, and along the way, there have also been many Crowning Moments of Awesome.

Narnia- yeah, I don't think you could call what existed before the new movies a "fandom"

It's a teeny tiny fandom! There was fic. Not much but some. A former fandom?
