Dude, you full on had a girl inside you for like, a week: A SPN theory about vessels

So, Dean is Michael’s vessel.

And people have speculated, where’s Michael got to, then? They're theorizing that Michael is refusing to possess Dean without consent, which is why Zachariah is so obsessed with getting that consent by whatever means neccessary.

They’ve said, “Maybe he is Dean, but Dean can only become Michael if he consents to the possession”. Logical, I’d be able to live with that.

They’ve said, “ Maybe he was John”, but then…how was John possessed by Azazel if he was already the vessel of an archangel? You’ll notice that of all the regular characters on the show, Dean is one of the few that has never ever been possessed.

When Sam was possessed, he was possessed by Meg, a female demon. If Dean is ever going to be possessed by a supernatural entity that is female, it stands to reason it'll be some kind of angel.

And I had been thinking , We now know for sure that Anna is not Lucifer, since she was arrested before Lucifer rose (and she fell because she loved humanity, not because she felt threatened by them). Anna could be the Divine Feminine, you know, Shekinah/Sophia. It fits so amazingly well, as previously noted. However, this is not “Buffy”, or really, the kind of show where you could expect the Divine Feminine would make an appearance. Anna might be God God but remember she said “Maybe there is, maybe there isn’t” and God wouldn’t waffle like that since God should be well aware of whether He exists or no (although a god so depressed he stops believing in himself would be interesting). But Anna was Castiel and Uriel’s boss in Heaven and her next line is “but there’s still me”. Does she somehow have a specific reason for being comfortable with regarding herself as a decent substitute for God?

Why would Heaven be so desperate to have her arrested if she was just a garden variety fallen angel? Lucifer led a rebellion, Anna was in a locked psych ward and probably would’ve been happy staying human. She liked humans and humanity and didn’t want power or chaos, she just wanted to go to college, eat chocolate, and have sex. What if….Anna had to be arrested or killed because she had a job to do that she ran away rather than do? Like, Heaven’s apocalypse plans cannot go forward without her.

She had an instant, and eventually rather intense, connection with Dean. They spent a romantic night making gentle, consensual love in the backseat of his car, which is a nice counterpoint to Zachariah’s violent attempts to get Dean to give in to being a vessel. Angels and their vessels, if left alone, probably naturally gravitate toward each other, but there’s a problem if the angel already has a human body to work with.

Demons don’t always possess humans according to gender, and neither do angels- that is, if SPN has decided whether or not they’re going with the “angels are genderless” theory. Another fan mentioned that “Michael is a male angel” but do we honestly know that for sure? The male name “Michael” is in honor of the angel, not the other way around, perhaps people just assume Michael is a guy because ancient Christians and Jews assumed any soldier, especially a general of armies, must be a “man” the way human beings think of maleness.

Uriel was wearing her Grace around his neck, but why was it so important that Uriel had it? We realize a couple of episodes later that Uriel is pro Lucifer and has been working against them all along. It was important for the Lucifer faction that Anna not only not be able to retrieve her Grace but that she was arrested and contained.

The Zachariah faction appears to be trying to kickstart the apocalypse without the greenlight from God, and seems to think he can control Michael by making Dean consent to possession. How can Zachariah think that unless maybe he has Michael imprisoned somewhere, trying to force him to agree to possess Dean? Who bullied Castiel into getting Anna arrested?

Anna has that pale skin and red hair, which is similar to certain artwork they’ve shown us. Dean mentions that Michael resembles a woman in the paintings.

What I’m saying is, what if Anna is Michael?

Good God Y’all
A common US expression, especially in the South but also a line from Edwin Starr’s “War, What is it Good For?” I think if you hadn’t been spoiled for the ep, you’d still maybe recognize the reference (because of SPN’s reliance on classic rock references) but you probably wouldn’t guess where the plot was going because the title makes it sound like it’s going to be about God.

On this show, the words “have you found God yet?” are meant literally. Because that’s what Castiel is apparently off to do (he survived the previous two episodes somehow and has come back with mysteriously stronger powers including the ability to magically tattoo Enochian anti possession seals onto people’s ribcages). Apparently, he needs Dean’s…
OMG DEAN”S AMULET!!!!!! It gets hot in the presence of God (heheheh) so I guess that means no one we’ve seen Dean wearing it around is or was God prior to this episode. Castiel wanted the amulet in order to use it on his search for God.

In some cultures when a man gives another man his special amulet it means they’re married.

“Spirit in the Sky” is the Musical Moment for this episode. I’d been waiting for that one, I think. Good choice, bringing in some black humor.

Ellen and Jo and Rufus!

I loved that Ellen slapped Dean and yelled at them both for not keeping in touch. Viewers assumed the show had just forgotten about her, quietly got rid of the Harvelles for whatever reason. But they’re kind of lampshading it by having Ellen go “why didn’t you call us?” Because yeah, the people in Sam and Dean’s lives do not simply cease to exist just because Sam and Dean aren’t talking to them/about them. It was also great to see Rufus again, because I was afraid he’d succumbed to the Curse of Black Men on Supernatural.

War is portrayed by a sleek, obnoxious Suit- interesting choice and ties in with the working class point of view thing they’ve been going with. War isn’t really in control of the soldiers, or even the generals, it’s decided by men in expensive suits in conference rooms and the reasons often have nothing to do with what the general public and even the military, thinks they are. It’s governments who tell generals where and who to fight, but they do so in the best interests of trade and business (well, religion too but only if the religious agenda dovetails with the corporate one and in the US at least, these are sometimes well tangled together anyway).

“Have you seen the Irish, THEY”RE ALL IRISH”
That line, clearly not written by anyone Irish, Irish American or anyone who gets it. I’m sparing you the rant because you're all smart people who have a basic grasp of history.

An American and Religious Allegory
a theory, it’s interesting
good review post
Devil’s Feud Cake was the cartoon playing on the airplane at the start of "Sympathy for the Devil". Apparently you can watch it here.
