Now I feel weird. I don't feel like I got as much out of the last week as I'd hoped. None of my prompts got picked up, most of the fics weren't anything I really wanted to read (a lot of mediocre stuff for fandoms I'm not familiar with) and...yeah.

Also, "Picnic at Hanging Rock" is a very freaky (and slashy) movie and something was seriously wrong with those people. And I think Libba Bray has seen it.

Oh, and here's a wonderful Felicity vid. It's so awesome. I love the part with the archery.

It's not clips from the non existent movie, it's from another movie with appropriate looking actors. I think the cast list floating around the internet for the AGATB movie is just rumor. I mean, Gemma Ward? Has she ever acted before? Felicity is the Edmund of this story (how long did it take me to figure *that* out) so she needs to be played by someone who can actually act. She has to be mean and tough but vulnerable, make us hate her, then make us grudginly like her, then make us root for her, and feel sorry for her while working the subtext of all those secrets she has and not letting us forget that she's still no angel.

It's that last part that usually puts me at odds with most of the AGATB fandom. BUt I've written at length on that.

Glad it arrived there safely! (SHADOWLANDS too?) And yes, the freakiness and slashiness of it all is undisputed. Libba didn't just see it, she was taking notes too. Four girls. White frilly dresses. Supernatural doings. Mrs Nightwing = Mrs Appleyard. YUP.

Hey, I didn't figure that out at all! You are SOOO right, and I wish you'd put that observation on the AGATB ljgroup just to smoke out the people who've noticed.

It actually freaked me out so much it made sleeping difficult. Well, my ear hurt and I couldn't sleep anyway but *shudder*. A lot of the tension comes from how repressed everyone is-the boy looks like a suspect because he was uncomfortable telling the police he liked watching the girls(although he and the Australian were pretty slashy by themselves, lol). And then-the use of nature to create menace-these totally repressed people out where nothiong is repressed, and somehow they create a lurking villain even when we're never going to see what really happened out there...

I wish you'd put that observation on the AGATB ljgroup just to smoke out the people who've noticed.

I might write up a little something on it.

Oh HELL yeah. In fact, Weir's "Director's Cut" actually cut some of the scenes where people released their emotions, such as the church service where they're singing "Rock of Ages" and you see one of the girls breaking down. I don't like the DC myself, because I love the cinematography and some lovely images get chopped.

Talking of "Rock of Ages"... Seen this website? Best critical exploration of the film I've ever read, and make sure you click on the link about "Mrs Appleyard's journey to Hanging Rock"...

although he and the Australian were pretty slashy by themselves, lol

Blond vs dark, uptight vs easy-going, fragile civilization vs. robust nature? Any slashiness which results from this combo is ALL IN YOUR MIND, my dear ;)

somehow they create a lurking villain even when we're never going to see what really happened out there

Again, OH YEAH. The author actually wrote a final chapter introducing explicit magic and the supernatural as an "explanation" for what happened, yet the publisher - bless them - objected and said it would work far better as an unexplained mystery. No easy answers...

Do I have the director's cut? I don't remember this scene. Maybe I missed it. That's such an appropriate song in terms of theme and message and everything (although not, possibly, so appropriate to play at the funeral).

I loved that essay and the other links.I need to write up some comments on it.

I'm positive I sent you my old DVD, which was the full version not the DC. Luckily, a helpful soul on YT has posted this compilation of the deleted scenes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHX4B_mxlB0 - the church scene occurs at 8.00 or so.

That's such an appropriate song in terms of theme and message and everything (although not, possibly, so appropriate to play at the funeral).

"Let me hide myself in thee... OH WAIT! HANG ON A MINUTE!"

And more comments on PaHR would be welcome - you will at least have something more interesting to say than that stoopid "Botticelli wanted Miriam and Miranda for his eternal concubines" comment on the aforementioned YT link. When we have an unsolved mystery, every proposed solution can reveal unexpected aspects of the commenter's psyche... and THIS idjit seems to be just fine with pretty girls being taken as "concubines".

I vote we reserve this movie for people who aren't idjits. Agreed?
