Am half watching the DNC on tv. There was a nice tribute to Ted Kennedy (which had me worried that he'd died and I didn't know) and he did a great speech that echoed his "the dream shall never die" one.

The Clintons both gave really incredible (and very gracious) speeches in support of Obama. Hilary even put forward a motion that they suspend the usual process and just nominate Obama right away. Now, I'm sure this isn't all entirely selfless on their part. She's young enough to run again in four years and I bet she will, and her actions at the DNC will be remembered in a positive light.

And then people kinda went nuts when Obama came out. And he said that tomorrow, they're moving the convention to Mile High Stadium so that anyone who wants to come, can.

Although I always try not to get too carried away, since I'd rather not be let down if he sells out, turns out to be less than perfect, or has something bad happen to him. I mean, I don't need the President to be a messiah, I just want someone who is competent, on my side and not evil.

Working on a fic. It's mostly dialogue, what is it with me and not being able to write sex?

I'm a wee bit scared that people like this might decide to attend :(

Sing it! But I wonder why he or any other Democrat never instituted moves to get "vote caging" looked at by an independent body, or to get rid of the Diebold voting machines and insist on a "paper trail". The Republicans have stolen TWO elections so far: why haven't the Democrats raised all kinds of holy hell about it?

There is sucha thing as being too generous and too open when you've already recieved death threats :(

Well, there are complainst that the Dems were getting too-concerned with keeping their jobs and not concerned enough with corruption and real problems, that they have been losing their spines.

Oh yeah, I do understand that it must be tough to survive in Congress as it is, but if they really cared about the fairness of the elections surely they'd be screaming from the rooftops, "These machines are NOT FAIR! And we want to see fair voting booths in predominantly Black areas! And while we're at it, let's restore voting rights to ex-felons so that no Black person gets the nasty surprise of being disqualified on the grounds they have the same surname as a guy in jail!"

I think Obama will win, just like Gore and Kerry won... but because of the injustices, he'll lose.

I know, I know, but it has to get better and somebody who doesn't even know how many houses he owns ... I mean there is no way he could make it better. Right? I just want a smidgeon more in my pocket in four years. That's all.

Did you know McCain believes that money to fix roads qualifies as 'pork'? No wonder his wife believes the only way to get around Arizona is by privately chartered plane. They have some of the worst roads anywhere.

*is speechless* That sounds like a ready-made Dem advert right there - McCain proudly proclaiming he doesn't believe in fixing roads, followed by footage of AZ potholes. "Is this the man you trust to take care of your country?"

Didn't America originally break away from Britain because Britain was imposing "taxation without representation"? Sounds like it's still going on today. We Brits pay out a sizable proportion of our on-paper incomes, and yeah, we grumble about it now and again, but at least we get it back in our health service, transport schemes, social services "safety net", etc. For us, taxes represent a form of insurance. For Americans, it must be galling to pay out taxes and yet see very little personal return from it.

I hope your next leader (and yeah, we in Britain tend to hope it's Obama) starts using public taxes for the benefit of the American people. It ain't "socialism"; it's called "fair".

Well, in all honesty they do lower my taxes. In the state of Florida I don't pay income taxes and the big scheme this year is to get rid of property taxes too. The only tax left will be sales tax.

They call this an ownership society - taking ownership of my own needs. With the money I save, not paying taxes, TIiC feel I can build my own roads and open my own schools.

Not logical you say? I have no idea what you mean. These dead white guys have inherited billions from their father before them and managed to only squander a few million, run several companies into the ground, drown a city, get another city bombed, and drive up the price of gasoline to 130 dollars a barrel. They must know best, right?

HAHAHAHA. Sadly it IS logical: eventually they want to return us to the eighteenth-century, where the "real schools" were for the rich and the poor had to make do with "hedge schools", community efforts where the pupils paid a pittance to support the teacher and got to learn to read and write and not much else. As for the roads, as you so rightly point out, they plan to have forms of transport which can cope with gravel and potholes. Global warning? What global warning?

Remember, if you question them, THE TERRORISTS HAVE WON!

No! Are you serious?

Absolutely serious. My mother's office deal's with his all the time. She can never get his office to accept free grant money to help dig for clean water on Native American reservations. There are a lot of places in Arizona where there are questionable water sources and the reservations are some of the worst.
