OF COURSE

Kings final episodes will air in the summer

Critics love it, it was the most downloaded show on Itunes, even TwoP likes it and they're called Television without Pity for Pete's Sake. So where are the ratings for this? I'm betting a lot of people Tivo or DVDR it or download it, because the timeslot is so absolutely terrible. Which translates to great popularity for a show but low actual ratings. I mean, it seems like you just cannot get people to watch this show, suggestions that they do go in one ear and out the other (So Ben is Glory, and Glory is Ben?).

Weirder shows have survived longer- "Eli Stone" made it almost two seasons and that was about singing lawyers who saw the future! But it seems like networks in general are not interested in fighting for shows at this time.

And NBC is the network that is making the worst programming choices right now. Have you seen their latest commercial? The one that excitedly announces that since "71 percent of viewers have told us they want more comedy in primetime" we are getting a full hour of Jay Leno every night at ten!

Kings Episode 5: Judgement Day

I'm safe, up high, nothing can touch me, so why do I feel this party's over? )

NBC is moving “Kings” to Saturday night, otherwise known as the We Want This Show to Die timezone. Interesting also that it was the most downloaded show on Itunes this week, which means people *want* to watch the show, just not Sundays at 8 p.m. Which, duh, that's going up against The Simpsons, among other things. So why cna't they put the show on a weeknight, where it'd probably do better?

“I’m a tractor, I like to track things.” Best. Episode. Of 90210.2.0 Ever. What was the combination of writing, acting, directing and pure crack that made this episode so great, when the show itself is usually mediocre at best? Everyone lost it-it was the meltdown episode “Gossip Girl” keeps promising and never delivers. If it was on GG, it would've been perfect.

Annie wasn’t annoying and finally gets why what she did with Ethan was wrong.
Naomi was in top form- from the “Sesame Buns” crack onward- and due to the fabulous “game of telephone” style script and editing, by the end of the episode Navid’s nickname has migrated to something a lot dirtier.
Navid and Adrianna were hilarious with the babysitting (including the bizarre baby!pov camera angles)
Kelly’s mom- with the Dutch guy and the negligee and the George Michael and the horribleness
And Silver’s incredible breakdown, which was actually pretty well done and it’s rare that tv handles things like bi polar disorder.

And then they went and ruined it with a sitcom style denoument and a PSA on being aware of Bi Polar Disorder.

Speaking of being disturbed:
What is wrong with Burger King's ad department?

Brief Kings thoughts )

Hey, I found a nude Lucy for a ridiculously low price but I thought about it and figured I'd feel compelled to buy her something to wear while I look for the full outfit so I wouldn't really be saving that much, would I?

Kings: Pilot Episode: Goliath

And I’ll Walk Away a Fool or a King

I wish I could do funny, snarky, scene by scene recaps but it’s probably better if I don’t try. I’ll stick with Pro versus Con for this pilot episode.

Spoilers Ahoy! )

All in all, a flawed series but one with a lot of potential that I'd like to see realized.

ETA: Apparently, it got creamed in the ratings last night. It was on during the 8 pm "family hour" even though it's not *really* a "family" show... PLUS, like the "Book of Daniel" fiasco, it's a show with religious themes that would please most normal people (religious in the sense that it's based on a Bible story, anyway...) but will most likely upset the very demographic who could save the show- and by that I mean, religious conservatives with money (because when they put their weight behind something, it moves)- lefties would like it if they tuned in but they won't, and even if they do like it, they won't lift a finger to do anything about it, because they never do.

cough.

And unfortunately, we don't currently live in an era where struggling tv shows get more than one more chance to grab an audience, especially not on a Big Three network in primetime. I mean, we can hold out hope, since NBC really has nothing better going on except "Law and Order" and the Thursday comedies, but this is the network that just gave Jay Leno his own primetime hour every weeknight at ten, instead of retiring him like they said they would. So NBC has been wearing Bad Idea Jeans a lot lately.
